Some adults go to “fat camp” to try to trim down fast for a bikini clad summer, and others go because they have tried just about everything else, or at least they feel they have, and they need a drastic approach. Some people are sending their obese kids to fat camps. But fat camps have changed since the stereotypical days when dieters were encouraged to starve, exercise all day every day, etc.
Most counselors try to make exercise and healthy living fun, and while most are not losing quite as much in that short period of time, executors are focusing on more sustainable practices for long term weight loss results.
Of course, many kids have trouble keeping the weight off, as do many adults, afterwards, and it’s not because counselors aren’t being more proactive. It’s because home life often encourages the same unhealthy eating habits and sedentary lifestyles. So unfortunately, with the exception of those kids who are willing to take the initiative, most will end up gaining the weight back. What can you do to change this?
The big thing is to get a support group once you go home. Do what you can to maintain the same lifestyle, even with growing familial pressure. The best way to make that easier is to join a support group or get others around you who are trying to do the same thing.
