MUFA’s have been all the rage lately, and yet most dieters don’t know what MUFA’s are right off the top of their head. MUFA’s have been advertised as a major part of every “flat belly diet.” But what’s so special about MUFA’s.
MUFA is an acronym for monounsaturated fatty acids, and there is some evidence that a diet that happens to have some MUFA’s can lower cholesterol levels, improve heart health, and promote weight loss at the same time. Some suggest that people who consume more MUFA’s are more successful at losing weight and body fat than those who are on low fat, carb rich diets. Go figure.
Interestingly enough, it does not necessarily target belly fat. It just sounds good, and it makes MUFA’s more popular. But the main benefit is actually heart health. MUFA’s are without question known to lower bad cholesterol levels while increasing good for greater balance and better heart health.
The MUFA diet comes in a number of different forms, and some recommend combining it with all sorts of other foods. But when it comes down to it, if you want to lose weight, it is proven to have a healthy effect, and it does actually improve cholesterol.
